SysMaster Adds SoftSwitch Functionality to its VoIP Products

June 05, 2003
Emeryville, CA

SysMaster Corporation, a leading provider of Voice-over-IP and networking solutions for the enterprise, announced today the addition of SoftSwitch functionality to its VoIP products. Equipped with the new functionality, SysMaster VoIP Gateway and Gatekeeper can pass through traffic coming from other gatekeepers and gateways while converting signaling protocols and voice encoding to ensure compatibility with existing voice infrastructure.

The SoftSwitch functionality of SysMaster’s VoIP products allows a complete separation of origination and termination gateway and gatekeeper networks. In SoftSwitch mode, SysMaster VoIP Gatekeeper can emulate an H.323 gateway for call routing purposes, receiving calls from gateways not registered with it and routing them to other H.323 gateways or gatekeepers. SysMaster VoIP Gateway working as a SoftSwitch can receive voice packets encoded with a particular codec, convert them to alternative codec, and send them to another gateway.

“The rapid technological progress in packet-based voice networks has led to the proliferation of multiple VoIP standards which complicate equipment interoperability,” said Michael Fahey, SysMaster Director of Sales. “That’s why the SoftSwitch functionality makes our equipment extremely versatile and easy to integrate into existing telecom networks. By ensuring interoperability, we substantially reduce infrastructure costs for our customers while keeping the quality of transported voice traffic at maximum levels”.
